Travelling for some may be overwhelming, while for others, it’s a way of life. In all cases it is a means to expand your mind and broaden your physical experiences. We are soooo lucky to live in a time where we have the technologies to get to the other end of the planet in a little more than a day. This, to me, is a result of the exponential growth of the planet and so, will undoubtedly affect its population But how can we use this gift to our and to the planets Higher good? There are a couple of tricks to help us keep our alignment.
1. Choose things that will broaden your mind
This goes without saying, but I still wanted to put it on my list as it might not always be so obvious for some. The more you put yourself out there, the more chances you get to have life-altering experiences. I know that sometimes it might be tempting to stay in your comfort zone or travel in a way that you feel safe and trust me, safety first, but sometimes it is worth choosing the unknown instead of comfort. It is when you step out of your comfort zone that you push your own boundaries and become a more expanded and accomplished version of yourself. Conquer your fears, make new friends, develop new skills, go to some unexplored areas if you feel like it but keep on pushing yourself. Never stop pushing yourself. Break that ice! And don’t worry you’ll thank yourself for it down the road. Because after all, life is a reflexion of what is going on inside, so the more you push your outside world, the more you get to go to the depths of your own soul.
2. Discover, Discover, Discover!
Aldous Huxley once famously said “To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries”, so go ahead and prove the world wrong! And it is when you start to travel and meet people that you realise that all is not lost and that whatever people say, there will always be good wherever you are and whatever may happen around you. That is one of the most important lessons for anyone that really wants to start making a change and being the change. Experiencing people, experiencing the good in all that is to give us hope, and to push us to follow our true path. The more you discover, the more you see and feel what others may be going through. You will then, undoubtedly build acceptance toward others, and then, towards yourself. That will lead you towards a beautiful inner journey of healing and discovery. The world is flawed but the world is a thousand times more beautiful, just like each one of us, so don’t be afraid to step in that power and own that power.
3. Disconnect yourself from people and places.
Disconnect yourself from all that no longers serves you and holds you back. And by that, I don’t mean to completely get rid of everyone and everything but it is healthy to make the point about what has come to an end and accept it. Sometimes we drag ourselves into situations where its purpose has long been served and, through our emotional ties, we have a hard time disconnecting ourselves. And by disconnecting from other people and places, you get to connect yourself to your true self even more and to understand better where this has led you and where it will lead you next. This brings me to my next point :
4. Travelling solo
Ah, this one is by far, my favourite. Although travelling with friends might be fun, it often runs its course. Try travelling by yourself once in a while (but still be wary of how you are doing it, where you are going, etc), to really be on your own and to be the only decision maker. Imagine not having to settle for things you don’t really want to do, or having to wait for someone when you just really want to go to sleep. Leave home at home and go on your own discovery journey if that’s what you are looking for. And people come and go, but you stay, so do things for you. A great alternative to travelling solo: startup with a friend, then split, then meet up again in the other country, then split again! The important thing is to have time with yourself to do what you want to do. And also live experiences by yourself that will really, really heighten your sense of resourcefulness. An important tool to have in life ;).
5. Help out as many people as you can
One of my biggest beliefs in life is that abundance comes through giving. And that might be through giving your time to causes you believe in or even your money, whatever it is that you can give, give it. But I think that spending time in animal shelters, or school or even a permaculture ground is one of the best ways to learn about the world and how you can make a difference. Then who knows, maybe you’ll discover a passion for restoring the great barrier reef and find out your true vocation. But at the end of the day, it’ll be all worth it and you’ll feel a greater sense of accomplishment because feeling like we are not useless and that every little contribution can actually make a change on a bigger scale is without a price.
6. Let yourself be guided by your instincts
Instincts are everything. If you don’t feel right in a situation, leave. It is not worth your time or energy, your guts might actually be talking to you and tell you to keep an eye open. But on the other hand, if you feel extremely compelled to go somewhere, go. There might be something great awaiting you, or maybe it’ll be only a place that will lead you to where you need to be. But at the end of the day, when you travel you are loose in this big world and all that you can really rely on is yourself and your instincts. Your higher self knows what is best for you, you just have to start listening. You’ll know when you’re on the good path because it will just feel right, and from there, things will just start to roll naturally. You are your most valuable compass, and although sometimes it might need tuning, don’t tame that little voice inside of you.
7. Be conscious
Last but not least, be conscious. I know it might sound cheesy but it is what it is. Research things before doing it, don’t encourage animal cruelty, even though it is because you were uninformed. There is a lot of things going on in this world in the name of “tourism” and don’t let yourself be fooled by it. If you decide you are choosing the road of the Higher Good, there will certainly be temptations but it is important to stay informed and conscious about everything. Stay aligned, stay true to yourself, listen to your instincts and all shall be well.
On this note, my dear readers, hope you will find your road on this long long journey, and hope it will lead you to something greater. Because life is great, and life is worth being lived to it’s fullest. Don’t let your fears or other people stop you from reaching your full potential and whenever you have a test at hand, stay conscious. Know that all will be well. Wish you all the best of luck in your travels.
