So there is a theory that runs in the astrological world regarding travels and the Solar Return chart. The solar return of somebody is the chart when the Sun starts a whole new journey around the zodiac, starting at its original position (when you were born).
So if your Sun is in 23’33 Capricorn, then whenever the Sun comes back to this position, it freezes and whatever the chart is will be your chart for the year to come. A lot of astrologers believe that you can control the outcome of your Solar Return by simply going travelling.
As you know, your rising sign is influenced by the time and location you were born. Same goes for the Solar Return. If you are to be travelling during your birthday, then your chart will be influenced by that, as the time and location of your Solar Return will change. I have only been trying this method for 2 years now but I can tell that I feel the influence of the Solar Return, no doubt. For example, this year my Moon is in Aries and I have never been as blunt and expressive in my relationships. I used to be having problems expressing myself while now I find that I can say what’s on my mind without any blocks, without being held back to a point where I sometimes need to cover my mouth not believing what I just said. All in a pretty impulsive manner. Good influence to be around for someone like me, but to be used with caution.

So the concept is to plan your travels depending on which area you want to focus on for the year to come. For example, if you want to have more focus on relationships, you must try and align your travels with a place where your main personal planets fall into your 7th house. If you want to concentrate on travelling, try and make it fall on a Sagittarius ASC or personal planets in the 9th house. For your career and studies focus on the 10th and 9th house. It’s all about aligning the stars in the direction YOU want.
Play around with the energies available to make the most of what is available to you.
Want more money? Avoid Saturn in the 2nd, been there done that, learnt my lesson and won’t do it again.
Some people swear by this technique and like I say, the worst that can happen is that you will have one more stamp to add to your passport.
When it comes to the Sun, you will want to look for where it falls in your chart as this will be the central point of your Solar Return. It is where you chart lights up and where you will find your identity for the year to come. You can use the Solar energy to give you vitality or to boost whichever part of your life you want. The moon will be focused on your emotions and what will nurture you. Look at what aspects it makes between other planets to understand the role it will play better. Mars & Venus will represent your stamina and where you find beauty-money respectively.
The Ascendant of your SR
To make the whole more efficient, it is also important to take into consideration a few things. For example, when choosing the Ascendant, you want to be really careful as the planet ruling the Ascendant will also be the “Ruler of your chart”. Which means that if you decide to be a Capricorn Rising as most of your planets fall into the 7th house but your Saturn is badly aspected in the whole chart, this will influence your year. You can also take a look at the degree in which falls the ASC and see if there is a house or planet that falls to the same degree. This is an indication that the house in which it falls will also be a zone of focus.
Degrees and angles
So this is a big one as well, the angles of a chart give it it’s dimension. It is the “container” of a chart and will highly influence it as well. It will give you hints on how you will behave regarding yourself, your relationships, your home environment and your career. Look at what planet falls on what angle, how it interacts with other planets and how it all forms a whole together. Degrees of the planets are also important, if there are any planets that fall at 29 or 0 degrees, this will indicate new beginnings or endings in a specific area. A new way of seeing the world and “younger” energies when it comes to 0 degrees and more mature views on a subject, something that is coming to completion when it comes to 29 degrees. Although you can’t do much for the degrees planet fall in, you can move them around to change the area of focus it will have in your life for the upcoming year.
Playing around with your Solar Return is a fun activity to do as it also allows you to envision new horizons and dream a little bit about travels and opportunities that present themselves. It is always interesting to experiment with such things as it allows you to open your mind to new things. And like I said, it is worth the try as the worst that can happen is that you have a new stamp on your passport! I always say that life is all about knowing the energies available to be able to understand and have more control over them. Astrology is an art that allows you to have access to this information and not be fatalistic in your approach to life but understand the energies that allow you to grow. And somethings you can play a bit with and realign the stars to your advantage.
